Bognorphenia Singers are the brainchild of Kez Dunnaway, founder of Bognorphenia, with the aim of bringing young people together through music as part of the Young People’s Music Project.
Open to children and young people aged 6 upwards, the choir is welcoming, inclusive and all about building confidence while having fun. Members are encouraged to have their say by choosing the songs they’d like to learn and perform, helping to create a group where everyone feels involved and valued.
Led by singing teacher Denisa, the choir has become known for its friendly atmosphere and uplifting performances. Denisa’s enthusiasm and encouragement help every young person develop their confidence and enjoy singing, regardless of their experience or ability.
One of the choir’s greatest achievements has been seeing some previously non-verbal members grow in confidence and join in with the group. Moments like these highlight the positive impact that music, encouragement and inclusion can have.
The choir features on the Bognorphenia album project Small Geezers, performing a track written by Davey Anscombe especially for Kez, called “Higher and Higher”.
Alongside their live performances, the album recordings give the young singers the opportunity to showcase everything they’ve achieved as part of the group. We even got a sneak peak inside one of the recording sessions, which took place on one of the hottest days of the year!
Supported by Bognorphenia’s dedicated mentors, the singers continue to develop their skills while performing a range of contemporary songs throughout the year. Every performance reflects the sense of community, friendship and achievement that makes Bognorphenia Singers so special.
If you’d like to hear Bognorphenia Singers live, come along to the Our Generation Young People Day on September 6th!
There from the start

Rowyn is Denisa’s daughter and has been singing all her life in a very musical household. Music brings the family together and they can all play multiple instruments too. She has been in the choir since day one and loves how everyone is welcome to join.
Rowyn performs a solo in the album track Higher and Higher.
Singing Brothers
Leo and Mikey are brothers and love going to the choir where they have made new friends

New member

Skyla has been a member for a couple of weeks and describes the sessions as ‘fun and crazy’.
